If you’ve seen the piles of dirt on the south side of Huntsville’s iconic Big Spring Park, our team apologizes for the mess! Please pardon our progress as we partnered with Fite Building Company and the City of Huntsville to prepare this beloved space for its next phase of beauty. We are honored to be part of a project that will create new opportunities for recreation, connection, and community gathering in the heart of Huntsville.
Grounds Control is responsible for Phase One of the Big Spring Park East project, focusing on preparing the site for the construction to come. With significant elevation changes, extensive rock conditions, and numerous existing underground obstacles, this project has required careful coordination, flexibility, and plenty of problem-solving in the field. It’s a challenging site, but our team is ready to put in the work that lays the foundation for what’s next.
Every successful construction project starts with the work that happens before the building begins. At Big Spring Park East, our role is to prepare the site so the next phase of construction can move forward.
Our scope of the 2026 construction includes complete sitework, storm drainage installation, rock excavation, concrete work, asphalt paving, and final striping. Navigating the existing site conditions while maintaining progress has required a hands-on approach and close coordination throughout the project.
From managing elevation changes to working around underground obstacles, our team is focused on addressing the challenges of the site and completing the groundwork needed for the next phase. It’s a reminder that some of the most important work on a project happens before the finished spaces ever take shape.
The City of Huntsville has planned an inviting, accessible space where people can gather, play, explore, and enjoy the outdoors. The next phase of the project, led by our friends at Fite Construction, will bring a range of amenities designed to enhance the park and strengthen its connection to the surrounding community.
Planned improvements include:

The design, developed by Bostick Landscape Architects and Nola VanPeursem, emphasizes ADA accessibility, improved pedestrian connections, and the overall visual appeal of the site. Together, these features will help strengthen the connection between Big Spring Park East and West while creating welcoming spaces for relaxation, recreation, and community gatherings.
We are excited to see this vision take shape and proud to play a part in the early work that will help make it possible. The project is estimated to be completed in 2027. We look forward to seeing the transformation and the new ways this space will serve the Huntsville community for years to come.
